Hindi Music Downloads(123musiq & Ajhits)

To find free Bollywood stuff on the net isn't always that easy. If you google 'Hindi Music', you'd probably get a handful of subscription services, listen-to-music-online or junk sites with clever SEO content. When you finally find some site offering free downloads, either they will have very limited selection to offer or display ads relating to free downloads. Another problem with these sites is that they will be choke-full of ads and pop-ups(mostly things you never want!). Well, if things are starting to hopeless, here is a couple of sites for you to check out. 123musiq and Ajhits looks good enough to get you the songs you need.

123musiq is the best Hindi free download site I have seen, no doubt. The best reason for that would be the amount of stuff they've got to give away(gives you a good reason to wade through all that ads). They have a really heavy collection of Bollywood and Pakistani songs. On top of it, they stock quite a no. of good English albums. They also have a pretty strong collection of Malayalam, Tamil, other regional and miscellaneous songs. This means this is one site that is worth a thorough browsing. You don't even have to sign up to use the site. Once you get to the home page of the site, you'll find everything neatly categorized and the latest entries listed. The process is quite simple. You can find your choice by browsing through the categories. There is a search option too, but I don't recommend it. Once you find the page of the album or film, there will be a linked list of songs. Just right-click on the link and select 'Save Target As'. And the song is yours! Once you have used it, I'm sure you'll be back whenever you need an Indian song.

Ajhits may seem like a poor cousin of 123musiq, but I'm mentioning them 'coz they have a decent Hindi collection. And mind you, it is "Ajhits", not "Ajhitz"(Ajhitz is a junk site). If I start listing the disadvantages, there are a lot. You have to sign up to use it(no simple process!) and they have a pretty confusing structure(tough to find your choice). But they provide a forum for discussing music and films. So, if you want a song from Ajhits, you have to sign up first. The Register link can be found along with the log in box at the bottom left corner. Just give a good e-mail address that you can verify and no problems, if you give some gibberish for your address. They'll send a confirmation e-mail and when you click on the link provided, they will sent the user name and password(automatically generated) to you. After logging in, find the song you want by browsing or searching. The search option uses the Guruji search(same as 123musiq) and therefore not much good. When you find the album or film, there will be a list of links to the songs. One good thing is that they provide details about the file. Right click on the Download button and select 'Save Target As'. You got yourself another song. It is best if you try Ajhits only if you don't find 123musiq helpful. Happy Downloading!

General Downloads - http://www.torrentz.com/

Torrentz is one thing that is going to make all the other sites I have reviewed feel unwanted. For all the use it has been for me, it took quite some time for me to hear about this site. Well, I was first acquainted with this site when it popped up while I was visiting another free download haunt. At first, I did what one does to other popups - I ignored it. Finally one day, after a frustrating search for one new album I was dying to get, i was almost convinced that I wasn't going to get the album anytime soon. That is when this popup appeared again. I decided to go for it and rest, as they say, was history. Today, I have no problem getting any new album or game or software......

Torrentz is a search engine to find the torrent that will enable you to lay your hands on that game or song of your desire. For the uninitiated, when i say torrent, I mean a .torrent file. Let me give you a little background on this. BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing communications protocol developed by some of those open source software guys(bless them!). Kinda what the Napster used to be. This enables people to circulate large amount of data on the net without having to support the entire cost of hardware for hosting. The people who recieve the data act as sources for the people coming later. When you download a file using this service, it is downloaded from multiple sources at the same time which means you get a considerably faster download. If you want to learn more about this, try this, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.torrent. The key to getting these downloads lies in a .torrrent file. The .torrent file is what tells your computer when and where to download the data from. So, if you want to download some stuff using this protocol you need the .torrent file and a BitTorrent client. This is where Torrentz comes in - to help you find the torrent.

Torrentz is a search engine for finding .torrent files hosted in the net. The first pic shows the home page. You can either search for your download using the search bar or click on one of the listed links showing the hot searches. Doing so, will take you to another page showing the related torrents from various sites. An example is shown in the second pic. The list is probably gonna be really long. So, take some time to make your choice. You will notice that along with the file name, other details like when the file was uploaded, the file size, no. of times downloaded etc. are given. Click the links to get further info, if you ain't sure what you're looking at. When you click a link, you get another page, as shown in the third pic, listing various sites holding the same torrent. If you scroll futher down, you will see the the contents of the torrent. See whether this is what you're after. If yes, proceed by clicking one of the sites from the list at the top of the page. If not, there is another list at the bottom of the page showing other top related torrents. When you reach the site, you'll find a link to the torrent. You can look around and find further details about your torrent, especially the contents of your torrent. When you're satisfied, hit the 'Download Torrent' button and take your torrent home. Save the torrent in your computer. And you'll see that it is a tiny file(mostly in kbs). Actually this torrent is your key. To unlock your download, you need a BitTorrent client.

A BitTorrent Client downloads files using the BitTorrent protocol. There are plenty of them in the Internet available for free. If you ain't that selective, I must say almost all of them works just fine. If you want to know more about different BitTorrent clients and their capabilities, here check this out - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_client. Some of them are Azureus(http://azureus.sourceforge.net/), uTorrent(http://www.utorrent.com/download.php), Torrent Swapper(http://bit-torrent.sourceforge.net/) etc.. All of these softwares are really small files. So, there is not much trouble getting them. After you have installed it, check out the interface. What we need to do is quite simple. Most of these software have similar interfaces. Click on the File menu and click 'Open Torrent'. Browse and open the torrent you had saved earlier in the computer. You'll see that the download starts. You can see the time required among the dispalyed stats. If you look around and experiment, you can see that you can pause the download, open other torrents at the same time and download or schedule them for a later time, create a new torrent yourselves and so on. And now you have what you need...

With torrents, the possibilities are endless. That newly released film or that game you covet or that software you wanna try out, just try searching on Torrentz. But if you're looking for something more regional, torrentz may not always help you. Or if you're looking for a single song or its lyrics, it's much easier downloading it from sites like mp3000 or 123musiq. But if you're looking for a major download, I say, Torrentz is the place for ya. Happy Downloading!

Music(English) - www.mp3000.net

One of the simplest and most straightforward mp3 download sites, there is. I post this first 'coz this is where I got my first free mp3 download. This site aint got that expansive a collection of music. But still they can get you the best songs of any artist worth knowing. Other than a couple of sleazy ads and popups, there is not much to be bothered about. You will also notice that there are also giving away lyrics for free. And there are videos, ringtones, screensavers and other cool stuff to take home too.

The pic shows the home page. The names you see upfront are the most downloaded artists. And below the most downloaded lyrics. If you see some artist you want, click on the name to see a list of their available songs. And if you dont see what you want, type in the name of the artist or song and click 'Search'. If you know the artist's name, it would be much easier to find the song of your choice. Chances are that, you'll find more than one entry for the same track. Then, it is better if you download the one with the most no. of downloads. You can see the no. of downloads displayed aganist the name of the track. Downloading would be much easier and safer if you were using one of those download managers like DAP. Many of them also help accelerate your downloads. Before starting the download, check whether the file size is in the expected range for a mp3. It is very much easier to spot bad files this way.

You must have seen the other tabs in the home page. That is where you can check out the newly added songs and the top downloads. Browse through them and you may chance upon something new 'n cool. As you will discover, mp3000 also has other cool stuff to give away. That, you may try out on your own. Happy Downloading!
